In the last century, female musicians, artists and designers were often paid less attention than their male colleagues. In the anniversary year of the Bauhaus, exhibition organizers were motivated to give design history a fresh start by looking at the female students and graduates of the internationally renowned institution. Female designers, who had often gone unnoticed until then, were put in the spotlight. A series appeared on German television that dealt with the actors at the Bauhaus from the same »critical« perspective.
Names like Charles Eames and Alvar Aalto are familiar to most, but what do we know about Ray Eames or Aino Aalto?
And what about the role, perception and attention in the 21st century with regard to female designers in the world?
In this seminar, we dealt with the female representatives of our profession in the past and present. To explore the female actors and their creative actions, to get to know their achievements in design better.
At the same time, we dealt with questions of women's pay, professional positions and their role in teaching.
Every student picked a female creator and designed an editorial layout for a zine. Since I am interested in photography, I chose Clara Nebeling.
